Thailand Leads the Way with World’s First Stand-alone Pertussis Vaccine Program for Pregnant Women

Thailand’s National Health Security Office (NHSO) has established a maternal immunization program that protects newborns from whooping cough (pertussis). All pregnant women in Thailand now have free access to the pertussis-only (aP) vaccine, underscoring the country’s commitment to health equity. With this program, Thailand becomes the first nation to implement a stand-alone pertussis vaccine for pregnant women.

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease that poses severe risks, particularly to infants. In recent years, Thailand has experienced a resurgence of pertussis, placing over 400,000 newborns at risk annually. Vaccinating pregnant women between weeks 20 and 32 of their pregnancy has been shown to effectively transfer protective immunity to their newborns, providing critical defense during the first months of life.

BioNet is honored to have our vaccine included in Thailand’s national maternal immunization program. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to public health and aligns with Thailand’s efforts to protect children from preventable diseases.
